About Brainwaves

The following general guidelines will help you generally determine what brainwaves are dominant at any given moment. Although this program is designed to help you develop the skill to control your stress, bringing you down to the low beta to low alpha range, it is quite possible you will enjoy the audios and find yourself occasionally slipping deeper. Below are guidelines on each brainwave state and their subsequent physical sensations. Once you complete the Stress Mastery program, you can begin SuperCharge Your MindPower which focuses on drawing the benefits of brainwaves from theta and delta.

Gamma and High Beta

These faster brainwaves are usually attached to “hyper-fast thinking” and the brain/mind experience we call stress. If you feel as though your mind is racing, your hands (and often feet) are cold or sweaty, your heart is racing and your body is very tense – then your brain is probably dominated by Gamma and high Beta brainwaves. In terms of the goals of this program, these brainwaves are generally to be controlled.

Beta

The full range of Beta brainwaves may be present if you are solving a mental problem or speaking. This includes silently “talking to yourself,” which also automatically generates Beta brainwaves. One of the early goals of this program is to teach you to “cap” your Beta brainwaves, because they would otherwise make it difficult to develop the deeper, slower brainwaves.

Low Beta

The lower Beta brainwaves in the 12-15 cycles per second (cps) frequency are generally the most productive for calm, rational thinking and analysis. During this program you will first learn to “cap” even these Beta brainwaves, but will then later reactivate them in combination with Alpha, Theta and Delta brainwaves to create highly productive brainwave combinations.

Alpha

Alpha brainwaves are directly tied to your active creativity. As a general guideline, you begin to produce Alpha brainwaves when you close your eyes and relax.
But for Alpha brainwaves to become dominant enough to be productive, you also need to “cap” your Beta. If you find you cannot quiet your mind and settle into relaxation, for example, you still

Monkey Mind

One of the signs that high Beta is interfering with your desire to generate solid Alpha brainwaves is what we call “monkey mind.” You are experiencing “monkey mind” when your thoughts seem to be running through your mind non-stop. It’s very common to have this experience when you first begin to take control of your mind power. Having a calm mind is not common in today’s busy, stressed world.

  1. Here are some steps you can take to begin to take control of monkey mind:
  2. Relax your tongue (when your tongue is tense, you are actually “talking to yourself” and creating the high Beta brainwaves tied to monkey mind. Allow your tongue to rest lightly against the roof of your mouth, or to float.
  3. Just allow your thoughts to pass through your mind like clouds in a summer sky. Notice them passing, but do not struggle with them, analyze them, or try to stop themFocus all of your attention on the brainwave training you are working with and just forget your thoughts.

Theta

Most people only experience Theta brainwaves as they “fall” down into sleep. Your Theta brainwaves are dominant when you are sleeping and dreaming.
Theta brainwaves are the home of your subconscious mind. You will often find old memories coming up as you open your Theta brainwaves, and may begin to have either lucid dreams or better recall your dream materials.

Often the visual imagery with Theta is less defined than the imagery connected to Alpha brainwaves. For those who “image” with actual visual impressions, the images connected to Alpha brainwaves tend to be very crisp and sharp, and even cartoon-like. Theta images, on the other hand, tend to be darker and less well- defined, and sometimes will have swirling colors or a halo effect. For those who “image” with different senses (sounds, feelings, etc), Theta brainwaves will “feel” deeper than Alpha brainwaves. This is a very personal experience, and you will recognize it.

Delta

Delta brainwaves have unique characteristics. Delta is the home of your connection to the non-local mind – such experiences as deep intuition, extra-sensory perception experiences (ESP), and intense non-logical creative or “higher states” insights or experiences. Delta is in many ways the most challenging brainwave frequency to learn to initiate and/or control. It is more to be “invited” than “commanded” to be present.
